Roy C Culp, founder of Featherlite Trailers, passed away in his home November 17 at the age of 79

Roy C Culp, founder of Featherlite Trailers, passed away in his home November 17 at the age of 79.

Culp worked with American Trailers in Oklahoma City for 22 years and was involved in a joint venture between ALCOA aluminum and American Trailers in developing an aluminum semitrailer in 1963. In 1973 Roy with partners James Welchel, Don Musgrove and son Rodney Culp founded Featherlite Trailers, a pioneer in developing aluminum gooseneck livestock and horse trailers for the North American trailer market.

After selling the Featherlite Trailer Company in 1988, Culp semi retired, working with his son Rodney in building and developing a second aluminum trailer company, Exiss Trailers in 1994.

He is survived by his wife, Yuvonne Culp, and three children: son, Rodney Culp, and daughters, Cheryl Spiva and Jennifer Osterberger, along with nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Services will be held Wednesday November 21st at 2:00 PM at the Yanda Funeral Home located at 1500 West Vandament in Yukon, Oklahoma, thereafter Roy will be laid to rest at graveside service in Tuttle Oklahoma.
