STAS concept dump trailer has 10 innovations

A CONCEPT TRAILER with 10 innovations was the highlight of the STAS exhibit at the IAA in Hanover. Among the innovations are a 21st century design style with improved aerodynamics and ergonomics. Safety is high on the priorities of the design, such as a third brake light, this one mounted high on the tailgate in a framing recess at the midpoint in the width of the tailgate.
The tailgate opens automatically when the dump body starts to lift, and the rear underride guard lifts at the same time. A mirror at the front of the body lets the driver see when all the load is gone. The dump body is tapered four inches wider at the rear than the front — 2.3 meters (90.6") at the rear and 2.2 meters (86.6") at the front. An inclinometer and weighing system can be read remotely.
For better stability, the spring centers also are 4" wider than formerly — 1.4 m (55") versus 1.3 m (51") formerly, and the center of gravity is lower. Side guards to keep cyclists and pedestrians out from under the wheels run fore and aft from the landing gear and are hinged at the landing gear for access. A toolbox and a 30-liter (8-gallon) water tank are provided.
The dump body has a powered tarp cover to keep the driver from climbing. The 8-meter (26-ft) aluminum dump trailer on three axles weighs 4,650 kg (10,250 lb). While the concept looks forward to the time when these innovations will become standard, STAS representatives say all the features are available as options.
