Scheuerle aids submarine's final voyage

For one submarine in particular, its last journey of note was recently carried out using heavy load transporters from Scheuerle. With a weight of 2,500 tonnes, the 76-meter-long colossus, “Akishima”, was taken to its final resting place in front of the Yamato Museum in Kure, Japan. The complete operation was managed by Sankyu, a Japanese heavy load experts that has a fleet of SPMT modular heavy load transporters supplied by Scheuerle.
A total of 86 axle lines and six power pack units were used to bring the gigantic underwater vessel to its destination. With a diameter of 13.5 meters and a height of 18.1 meters, the submarine was held by specially designed retaining devices and set down inch-perfect in front of the museum.
The electronic multi-directional steering system of the SPMT heavy-load transporters allowed extremely accurate maneuvering of the large load. The client for this transportation task was the Japanese Naval Defense Forces.
