Former president of John Evans Mfg dies

Thomas “Tommy” Spencer, the retired president and chief executive officer of John Evans Mfg Co, died March 27, 2003, at his home in Sumter SC. He was 75. Spencer was employed for more than 50 years at John Evans Mfg until the business was sold in 1999. A long-time member of the Truck Trailer Manufacturers Association, he served as TTMA chairman of the board from 2000 to 2001.
Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Mary Ann “Mac” Curtis Spencer; Dr Thomas Spencer Jr; Curtis Spencer; and one daughter, Susan Spencer Brabham. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 9 W Calhoun St, Sumter SC 29150.
