Aluminum tipper has forward-looking slant

Feb 1, 2005 12:00 PM, By Paul Schenck

MENCI square-bottom dump trailers have a forward-looking slant, thanks to the positioning of the hollow-core extrusions that make up the sidewalls. The hollow aluminum planks are parallel to the sloping front wall, not the rear posts. These hollow-core extrusions are 61 mm (2.4") deep instead of the usual 50 mm (2"), and they have a wall thickness of 4 mm (.157"). The rear tailgate also is made up of these hollow-core extrusions. Production of these sidewalls was improved with the recent addition of full-automatic welding robots.

The three-axle Menci chassis has a liftable axle in front and a self-steering axle at the rear. Length of the semitrailer is 41 feet. Capacity of the high-sidewall body is 56 cubic meters (1,980 cu ft or 73 yards). Weight is 6,750 kg (14,900 lb).
