ACT Research schedules trailer outlook seminar

Aug 1, 2005 12:00 PM

ACT Publications will conduct its 33rd North American Economic and Commercial Vehicle Industry Review from October 25-27, 2005. The seminar's main purpose is to show how commercial vehicle industry demand, production, and sales will behave through 2006 and into 2007.

Among the questions to be addressed:

  • If the economy remains reasonably healthy through this time, will light, medium, and heavy truck demand peak ahead of the January 1, 2007 diesel engine emission changes? The expectation is that there will be a bubble in demand in 2006 followed by some form of fall-off in 2007.

  • Freight forecasts suggest that major congestion problems will get much worse over the next few years with hauling capacity becoming critical in 10 to 20 years.

  • In addition to emissions, economics, environmental needs, and safety issues are all surfacing as key variables that will potentially impact demand, but not all necessarily pulling in the same direction at the same time.

  • Will trucking and intermodal hauling capacity in the near term exceed freight to be hauled, thereby putting downward pressure on freight rates?

  • Is there a modal shift underway from trucking to rail?

  • What happened in the newly approved highway transportation legislation?

The seminar will take place at the Holiday Inn in Columbus IN. For more information, contact (812) 379-2085 or visit www.actresearch.net/seminar.htm.
