Pennsylvania unveils Mack Granite snowplow

The Pennsylvania Dept. of Transportation (PennDOT) has unveiled the first of its 11 tandem-axle Mack Granite snowplow trucks that will be used on the state's highways this winter.

Pennsylvania's PennDOT will be the first state transportation to use the new snowplow design. The agency said Mack asked it for advice in designing the Granite snowplow version.

"When Mack came to us as a partner and asked us for our ideas on how to build a better snowplow truck, we jumped at the opportunity," said state transportation secretary Bradley L. Mallory.

According to Mallory, a team of PennDOT equipment managers, operators and mechanics were invited to Mack's Allentown, PA-based engineering development and testing center earlier this year to submit ideas about what they would like to see in a snowplow.

"We at Mack are very pleased with the partnership we've forged with PennDOT regarding our new Granite series snowplow model," said Mack president & CEO Paul Vikner. "Thanks to the feedback PennDOT provided, we now have a product that delivers more value to the department and to Pennsylvania's citizens."
