Converting a Ford E-450 stripped chassis into a medium-duty hybrid electric truck is done at a series of stations at a 6,000-sqft building at the Utilimaster plant in Wakarusa IN. Shown here is the upfit station where the chassis is prepped—including the removal of the OEM driveshaft to accommodate the installation of an electric motor/generator between the transmission and the differential.
