For the first time since the merger of Kidron and Hackney, the products of both companies are being built in the same plant. Hackney’s beverage body plant in Independence KS has been expanded to accommodate production of the refrigerated van bodies built by Kidron.

For the first time since the merger of Kidron and Hackney, the products of both companies are being built in the same plant. Hackney’s beverage body plant in Independence KS has been expanded to accommodate production of the refrigerated van bodies builtThe manufacturing systems of the two companies are different. Kidron uses a cellular approach in which subassemblies are produced and moved to an assembly line. By contrast, Hackney builds its bodies and trailers in one of six production bays.Kidron foams its major components in this foaming press. It produces the walls for two bodies—simultaneously.
Seams of extruded aluminum flooring are welded automatically.Completed floors are moved to the assembly line.Bottom rails are punched and fastened to the crossmembers. Note the green structure in the background. The roofing station doubles as a tornado shelter.
The roofing station provides a convenient working height.A hoist lowers a completed body for mounting.A 54,250-sq-ft addition to this main assembly building and an 18,000-sq-ft expansion of the chassis and final installs building now makes it possible for Kidron to build van bodies in Hackney’s beverage body plant.
