Flexibility of Utility Trailer’s new aerodynamic side skirt and spring mounting braces are demonstrated at the Mid-America Trucking Show.Aerofficient of Winnetka, Illinois, has a patented curved shape rear fairing that folds flat against the rear doors for docking and deploys at road speed, either automatically or manually. When combined with Aerofficient front gap-filler nose fairing andAerofficient front fairing bends away and springs back when hit during extreme tractor maneuvers. The Aerofficient side fairings (not pictured) are full length to the tandem, and they telescope or expand when the rear bogie is slid forward or rearward.
Windyne of Bellingham, Washington, designed its Flex-Fairing to telescope when adjusting tandem position. It is mounted on hinges to provide easy access to the trailer underside. CEO Robert Tichelman is pictured at left. ATS Aerodynamic Trailer Systems of Chargrin Falls, Ohio, developed the SmartTail inflatable rear fairing to collapse automatically at slow speeds. Pulling a vacuum in the polymer skins flattens them so doors can be opened easily.
