A new 103,000-sq-ft facility is now serving as headquarters for The Auto Truck Group in Bartlett IL. It houses a 48-bay shop, fabrication area, 18,000 square feet of offices, and the location’s first parts showroom.The shop has a total of 18 doors. Trucks can enter the service bays directly through the door that serves that bay, or they can be driven down the center aisle, foreground to the appropriate bay. With each service bay capable of handling multiple trucks,Municipalities are a major source of business for Auto Truck—including the equipping of police vehicles.

For many law enforcement agencies, SUVs are preferred over the traditional Crown Victorias.The new shop has a 32-ft ceiling height, providing a little more headroom when mounting and servicing dump bodies and truck-mounted cranes.Snow and ice control equipment have been popular items during this tougher-than-normal winter. Shown here is the installation of a Western snowplow and one of the company’s new-generation spreaders.
One area of the shop is set aside for jobs that can be turned around quickly. Lights are being aligned here.The fabrication area is no larger than it was in the company’s previous location, but a new layout makes it more efficient.The doors are being closed on one of two paint booths that can accommodate trucks up to 40 feet long.
Auto Truck’s fabrication department can build its own truck bodies—or these custom units for railroad applications.A 16-acre lot provides plenty of storage for inventory and chassis.A 5,000-sq-ft showroom can quickly be converted into a dining room when Auto Truck hosts customer dinners and other functions.
A big-screen television in the customer lounge can keep people entertained while they wait for their vehicles to be completed.The engineering department is part of the 18,000-sq-ft office area.This 30-ft x 50-ft room, located next to the engineering offices, is used to demonstrate prototypes and completed vehicles, keeping customers out of the weather.
