Waste Management Increases Profits

Despite lower revenues compared to 2000, Waste Management of Houston TX posted positive income numbers compared to the big losses it suffered last year. For the third quarter of 2001, Waste Management watched its revenues drop to $2.9 billion from $3.1 billion in the same quarter last year.

The company noted that results from the third quarter of 2000 included $203 million in revenues from operations which have since been sold. Waste Management said its net income for the third quarter of 2001 reached $30 million, compared with a net loss of $191 million in the same period last year.

For the first nine months of 2001, Waste Management said its revenues dropped slightly to $8.53 billion from the $9.61 billion it generated last year. Net income rose substantially, however, to $345 million for the first nine months of 2001, compared to a $136 million loss in the same period last year.<
