Walt Thomas Memorial Service March 7

Mar 5, 2001 12:00 PM

A memorial service for Walter Thomas was held Wednesday, March 7, for Walt Thomas, former president of the National Truck Equipment Association and Scherer Truck Equipment.

Thomas was most noted in the industry as president of Scherer Truck Equipment in Kansas City—a small truck equipment company that he expanded into four branches over thirty-three years. He also owned Central States Thermo King and Double Check with his partner, Ronnie Kahn.

His industry service included a term as president of the National Truck Equipment Association (1978-1979). He also served on the Board of Trustees of his alma mater, Culver Stockton College in Canton, Missouri. Other charitable activities included the boards of the Leukemia Society and Cystic Fibrosis. He was a deacon at Colonial Presbyterian Church and a benefactor of the Kansas City Chorale.

Walt Thomas died March 3 following a bout with pancreatic cancer. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to the Walter Thomas Organ Fund at Colonial Presbyterian Church or to the Walter R. Thomas Memorial Fund for children in need.
