Wabash National Corp announces expansion

Oct 30, 2002 12:00 PM

Wabash National Corporation (NYSE: WNC) announced that its Board of Directors has approved plans to invest more than $2 million in a new flexible assembly line to produce Aluminum and DuraPlate(R) Trailers at the Company's manufacturing complex in Lafayette, IN.

"The new production line will be installed during the first quarter of 2003, and will create the needed capacity to support Wabash's focus on the smaller and medium-size fleet market segments,” said William Greubel, Wabash National's President and CEO. “This new line will provide production solutions to give us the kind of flexibility and capabilities we need to operate our processes more effectively and efficiently.

“In addition, the new line will allow us to focus on process improvements on our other production lines within the Lafayette facility. We anticipate that the majority of the positions for the new production line will be filled internally, as a result of continual lean manufacturing improvement programs. Wabash is making this investment to support market demand for a standard, high-quality trailer. The expansion will allow us to continue to respond to the immediate and future needs of our customers."
