Steel tariff scaled back on 178 imported steel products

The Bush Administration has excluded 178 imported steel products from tariffs imposed in March. According to an Aug. 22 New York Times article by Edmund L. Andrews, "All told, the administration has now waived the tariffs on 727 imported steel products. Of 13 million tons in annual steel imports, about 3.2 million tons are now exempt." The 178 products covered in the final group for this year covered a broad range of categories, including plate, hot-rolled, cold-rolled, corrosion-resistant, tin mil and stainless. Companies should contact steel suppliers directly to determine which imported products qualify for exclusion from the tariff.
