Reliance Trailer maintaining Cotati facility

Sep 17, 2002 12:00 PM

Reliance Trailer Co. announced that it plans to maintain its current Cotati, Calif., headquarters following discussions of relocating the manufacturing portion of the company’s plant to Merced.

Reliance, a premier manufacturer of custom-designed transportation equipment for the aggregate, refuse, forestry and specialized heavy-duty markets, said the decision to remain in Cotati was based on the lack of business demand in the heavy-duty transportation industry.

“The industry we serve will not support the new manufacturing facility that we had been attempting to develop,” said Brian Ling, chief executive officer of Reliance Trailers. “Such a facility remains in our long-term business strategy, although it appears it will not be feasible for another three to five years.”

The company had an option to purchase a parcel of land in Merced, Calif., but will not be exercising that option.

Reliance Trailer, with manufacturing and service facilities in Spokane and Lynnwood, Washington, Eureka and Cotati, Calif., is a premier manufacturer of custom-designed transportation equipment for the aggregate, refuse, forestry, and specialized heavy-duty markets.

Reliance, has been in business since 1914, and also operates Peterbilt truck dealerships in Windsor and Eureka, California.
