NTDA launches Federal Excise Tax hotline

Nov 21, 2003 12:00 PM

The National Trailer Dealers Association (NTDA) will offer a Federal Excise Tax (FET) Hotline starting Dec. 1.

The service is underwritten by NTDA as an exclusive member benefit to answer question and help companies stay compliant with federal regulations.

NTDA members can call the hotline at 1-800-800-4552 Monday through Friday from 8 am-5 pm or e-mail info@ntda.org to get answers, such as:

What is the proper application of the tire tax credit? Are interstate retail sales of trailers subject to excise tax? Are trailer and chassis considered separate units, and if so, do they carry separate tax liabilities? If we sell a trailer within six months of its purchase, is the sale subject to excise tax? If a customer retains title to a semi-trailer throughout a rebuilding process, can we still be liable for any resulting tax on the rebuilt body?
