Aug 30, 2001 12:00 PM

Nextel Communications Inc. of Reston, VA and New York-based Darby Corporate Solutions (DCS) have joined forces to offer a nationwide vehicle location service.

Nextel will provide the DCS Diplomat vehicle location service on its nationwide packet data network. Under what the companies call a “co-marketing agreement,” Nextel and DCS will work together to serve a variety of transportation-based industries with the services, especially trucking.

The DCS Diplomat application provides real-time vehicle tracking and fleet management tools for a mobile workforce, with fleet users also able to tap into a range of Nextel services, including Nextel Direct Connect, a digital two-way radio feature that supports unlimited communications among users in the same fleet.

Other available Nextel services through this partnership include digital cellular, text and number messaging, two-way messaging and wireless web access, the company said.
