According to National Association of Automobile Dealers Data 2002: -- The total number of vehicles in operation in 2001 in the U.S. was 216,682,937. Of that, 128,714,022 were passenger vehicles and 87,968,915 were trucks and buses. -- The total sales in all dealerships in 2001 was $690,407,000,000. That's a lot of zeroes! The average sales per dealership was $31,671,000. The state with the highest average sales? Arizona, at $67,952,000. The state with the lowest average sales? South Dakota, at $14,018,000. -- The average retail selling price of used vehicles retailed by new-car dealerships in 2001 was $13,900.
