Kentucky Trailers acquires Trailer Technologies

Kentucky Manufacturing Company announced July 17 the acquisition of Trailer Technologies, Inc, according to Larry Hartog, president and chief executive officer of Kentucky Manufacturing.

Established in 1991, Trailer Technologies specializes in designing and building enclosed automobile transport trailers and customized expandable trailers used for mobile exhibiting, military applications, and mobile marketing tours. The company’s exhibit trailers are used in mobile marketing campaigns on the road today for companies such as Fujifilm, Ford Motor Company, Boeing, Smithfield Foods, International Truck & Engine, and Symbol Technologies.

Established in 1936, Kentucky Manufacturing began by building a wide variety of truck trailers. By the mid 1960's, the company became known for its “drop frame” trailer systems which have become a staple in the moving industry. The company then began to expand into other markets where the drop frame design was needed.

The “drop frame” design means that the belly of the trailer remains low to the ground, therefore, providing easier loading access and more space inside the trailer. This “drop frame” design was also ideal for Trailer Technologies’ custom auto transport and mobile exhibit trailers. Trailer Technologies often uses a Kentucky trailer as the shell for building custom walk-through exhibit trailers.

“This acquisition was the next logical step in our growth and expansion process,” Hartog said. “The coupling of Trailer Technologies’ expertise in the mobile exhibit and automobile transport marketplace with our existing capabilities, provides our customers a full selection of customized trailers and helps ensure our leadership in the custom trailer manufacturing industry.”

Operations will remain at the Trailer Technologies facility in Walled Lake, Michigan. Kentucky Manufacturing has expanded frequently in and around its facilities in Louisville. However, this is the company’s first expansion outside the state of Kentucky.

“Trailer Technologies’ customers will benefit the most from this acquisition,” adds Wally Wallace, vice-president of sales and marketing for Kentucky Manufacturing. “We will provide increased availability of inventory, which will significantly reduce turn-around times, while continuing our tradition of the highest quality workmanship.”
