January truck sales up 7% over a year ago

Franchised dealers of U.S. truck manufacturers sold 564,760 units in January 2003, according to data published by Ward's Communications -- 7.6% above sales for the month a year ago. The biggest gains were seen in Class 1 (up 17%, from 329,183 to 385,030) and Class 5 (up 15%, from 1,602 to 1,843). The biggest losses were in Class 4 (down 34.8%, from 2,864 to 1,866) and Class 7 (down 21.8%, from 5,806 to 4,539).
