Holland Closing Trailer Axle Plant

The Holland Group has announced it is closing its trailer axle manufacturing plant in Delphos, Ohio, because of current market conditions.The plant produces a premium axle for over-the-road trailers. Its closure, which will lead to the elimination of 74 hourly and 24 salaried jobs, is expected to be complete by mid-November.
Holland acquired the Delphos axle plant from the former Fruehauf Corporation in 1997. Following an exhaustive analysis of the facility’s long-term prospects, Holland management concluded that product demand would not be sufficient to enable the plant to operate profitably. With the closing of the plant, the company will effectively exit the market of commodity-price heavy-duty trailer axles.
The decision to close the plant is not related to the recently announced restructuring of the U S operations of The Holland Group.
The plant will ramp down over a two-month period in order to fulfill critical customer orders.
