FDNY begins rebuilding process

The Fire Department of New York (FDNY) has begun replacing equipment that was destroyed September 11.

Saulsbury Fire Rescue of Preble, New York, has received contracts secured by the local Saulsbury dealer, Absolute Fire Protection headquartered in South Plainfield, New Jersey, for the following equipment:

* Five heavy-duty rescues (26-foot walk-in body) mounted on tandem axle Cyclone II cab/chassis units.

* Two tactical rescues (15-foot non walk-in body) mounted on International Truck 4x4 cab/chassis units. These vehicles include rescue cranes and quick deployment rescue boats mounted on top of the bodies.

* Two high-rise rescues (walk-in body) mounted on Mack MR cab/chassis. These vehicles are specifically designed with breathing air cart assemblies that carry equipment for high rise building fires.

* One Satellite pumper mounted on a Mack MR cab/chassis. They have a 4000 gpm water/foam turret and two 2000 gpm monitors. Typically, these trucks are utilized for high rise and industrial fires.

All the above units will be engineered and built with Saulsbury’s stainless steel body and sub-structure design. The Cyclone II cab/chassis utilized for the heavy-duty rescues is produced by Saulsbury's sister company, Emergency One, Inc. in Ocala, Florida.

“FDNY has been a consistent customer through the years, buying the vast majority of their Special Operations Vehicles from Saulsbury” stated Eric Saulsbury, sales manager (and grandson of the founder). “The events of September 11 have deeply saddened every individual here at Saulsbury and the loss of fire service personnel still defies description. In the midst of all the tragedy, we were deeply moved by the courage and commitment demonstrated by everyone involved. We are honored to be able to serve and help FDNY.”
