E-One donates truck to NYPD

Apr 5, 2002 12:00 PM

Joe Ross, Chairman and CEO of Federal Signal Corporation (FSS), presented the keys to a new rescue vehicle to Daniel Nigro, Chief of Department, FDNY, in front of the New York Stock Exchange. The truck was donated by Emergency One, a subsidiary of Federal Signal, a leading manufacturer of fire rescue vehicles.

Following the presentation, Ross, Daniel Nigro and other FDNY officers were greeted by the Chairman of the New York Stock Exchange, Dick Grasso. Grasso escorted the group on a tour of the NYSE floor and then to the podium, where Ross and Nigro rang the closing bell.

The unit donated is a 19-foot non-walkin rescue vehicle designed to respond to fires and other emergencies as needed. It will operate from Special Operations Command with the primary capability of providing “dewatering” functions. Additionally, the truck is equipped with systems to provide emergency electricity for lighting.

Ross noted that a number of other companies, including Freightliner Truck, stepped forward with equipment and material contributions to make this donation possible.

Today’s rescue truck donation is the second to the New York City area by Emergency One. They recently presented NYPD with a light-duty rescue vehicle on March 13, 2002. NYPD officers visited the Emergency One headquarters in Florida for the presentation.

“We believe that this rescue truck represents the very best about America,” Ross said. “Though New York City was tragically hit, America was the target; and America is responding. Our subsidiary, Emergency One, is honored to donate this vehicle as a step in the rebuilding of the FDNY equipment fleet. We also honor the many additional companies that responded by donating materially to this effort. We are here to salute the bravery of the men and women of FDNY, not just for the events of September 11; but because as industry partners, we know they put their lives on the line each and every day”.
