Engineered Support Systems wins trailer order

Engineered Support Systems has received a $6.2-million order for an additional 95 ammunition trailers.

The order, from U S Army Tank-Automotive and Armaments Command (TACOM), is for M989A1 Heavy Expanded Mobility Ammunition Trailers (HEMAT). The St Louis company has now received contracts for 495 of these trailers, bringing the total value of the contract to $35 million.

Engineered Support Systems will produce the trailers at its plant in West Plains, Missouri. Production is expect to run through mid-2005, according to Jerry Daniels, vice-chairman and CEO.

HEMAT trailers have a payload capacity of 11 tons. They are designed to transport multiple-launch rocket pods, palletized and unpalletized conventional ammunition, and fuel bladders and pods on paved, secondary, and cross-country roads.
