Diesel takes 3.9-cent jump

The U.S. average price at the pump for a gallon of diesel fuel rose 3.9 cents to $1.492 this week, according to the Dept. of Energy.

The department's Energy Information Administration reported that the price has jumped 7.2 cents since dropping to $1.42 on June 30.

Drivers in the California and West Coast regions are paying the highest prices in the country. In California, the average price hit $1.715, 11.3 cents over the June 30 mark. The price on the West Coast averages $1.648, up 9.2 cents from the end of June.

The Lower Atlantic region has an average of $1.434, up 2.9 cents from last week and 6.6 from June 30.
