Diesel drops to pre-war prices

Apr 29, 2003 12:00 PM

The average price for a gallon of diesel fuel dropped 2.1 cents last week, according to the U.S. Dept. of Energy.

According to the department's Energy Information Administration, the $1.508 average is the lowest since February 3, when the price began spiking because of fear of a war in Iraq.

The average dipped under $1.50 in the Midwest ($1.488) and Gulf Coast ($1.419) regions, but three regions – New England, Central Atlantic and California – all have averages above $1.60.
