Diesel drops 1.4 cents to $1.481/gallon

The average retail price of diesel fuel dropped 1.4 cents a gallon to $1.481, 3.9 cents higher than the same time last year, the Department of Energy noted Monday in its weekly report.

The price of diesel rose in the Rocky Mountain and West Coast reporting regions, and dropped in the Gulf Coast, East Coast and Midwest regions.

The Midwest reported the largest decline, 2 cents, to $1.478. The Rocky Mountain region saw a 0.7 cent increase.

The average price for regular unleaded gasoline fell 0.7 cents to $1.535 a gallon, the lowest level in 3 months.

DOE statistics are based on a weekly survey of about 350 representative fueling stations.
