Despite terrorist attacks, diesel falls 5.2 cents

Despite analysts fears that fuel prices would spike following the terrorist attacks on New York and Washington, the average retail price of a gallon of diesel fell to its lowest level since August this week, according to the U.S. Dept. of Energy.The agency’s Energy Information Administration reported that the average price fell 5.2 cents this week to $1.473. It had risen 3.5 cents the previous week to $1.527 following the September 11 attacks. The price went down in all regions but one, New England, where it basically stayed the same. The price of $1.49 was up by two-hundredth’s of a cent.
In the Midwest region, where the price has been affected by a refinery shutdown, diesel fell 7.9 cents from $1.594 to $1.515. The price fell 6.9 cents in California, from $1.685 to $1.616.
