Sustainable-Fuels Workshops Scheduled

May 17, 2011 2:56 PM

Transportation professionals are invited to learn about the capabilities of propane autogas and other alternative fuels at two free training workshops hosted by the Propane Education & Research Council (PERC) and Alternative Fuels Trade Alliance members.

The Kansas City Department of Environment workshop, hosted by the Kansas City Clean Cities Coalition, will be held May 17 in the Aladdin Hotel in Kansas City, Mo. The New Jersey Clean Cities Coalition and the Greater Philadelphia Clean Cities Coalition will host the second workshop, to be held June 1 at the Trenton Marriott Downtown in Trenton, N.J. Both events run from 8 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. Vehicles fueled by propane autogas and other alternative energy sources will be on display.

“At these training workshops, fleet managers will gain the tools and knowledge they need to incorporate green technology into their current lineup of vehicles,” says Brian Feehan, vice president of PERC. “Fleets play a major role in alternative fuel adoption. Choosing a domestically produced, cleaner-burning fuel like propane autogas means a greener environment and less dependence on imported oil for all Americans, both now and in the future.”

The Trenton workshop will conclude a nationwide series of 14 training seminars throughout 2010 and 2011, developed with a $1.6 million grant from the Energy Department. More than 700 fleet managers have been trained on alternative fuel quality, infrastructure, available vehicles, safety, the latest technologies, and the environmental advantages of propane autogas, ethanol, biodiesel, and compressed natural gas during these events.

The Alternative Fuels Trade Alliance comprises PERC, the Renewable Fuels Association, the National Biodiesel Foundation, and the Clean Vehicle Education Foundation. Each collaborative workshop involves one or more of the Energy Department’s Clean Cities coalitions, which work to improve air quality and reduce imported petroleum use.
