Aug 22, 2008 4:04 PM

The Original Equipment Suppliers Association (OESA) and Foley & Lardner LLP will present "Business in China: Industry Outlook and Supplier Profitability" on September 24 at the Somerset Inn in Troy, Mich.

This program focuses on supplier activity and profitability in China, and the forces influencing the ability to thrive in China. Supplier company executives with interest or responsibility for managing business aspects in China should benefit.

Steve Aschkenase, director, AlixPartners LLP, will share findings of a new study on the Chinese auto parts industry. The study examines the dramatic consolidation, mounting cost pressures and outside challenges that will shape the supplier industry going forward. Discussion topics include: exchange rates; value-added-tax (VAT) rebate for auto-parts; energy and raw materials markets; industry fragmentation; labor cost and availability; and access to technology.

B. Kenneth Duck, senior counsel, Foley & Lardner LLP, will discuss recent legal and regulatory developments and their impact on automotive suppliers in China, as well as recent trends and practices regarding joint ventures.

Margaret Baxter, vice president, policy and international affairs, OESA, will share results of a recent OESA member survey on supplier operations in China. Highlights include: scope of member operations in China; type of products shipped from China to the U.S., China to ROW and U.S. to China; typical shipping and payment terms; impact of the strong Chinese currency on supplier profitability.

Rich Anglin, chairman, Angell-Demmel North America, Inc., and Michael Rodenberg, director, Asia, Methode Electronics, will join Baxter to discuss supplier operations in China and share first-hand experiences in a panel session.
