Retail truck sales up 8.2% in March over a year ago

Franchised dealers of U.S. truck manufacturers sold 846,961 units in March -- 8.2% above sales for the month a year ago -- according to data published by Ward's Communications.

All classes showed a gain of at least 3.6%. The biggest gains came in Class 8 (90.4%, from 8,808 to 16,767) and Class 6 (63.6%, from 4,324 to 7,073).

Year to date, the increase is 10.8%, with Class 6 up 59.8%.
