Retail truck sales down slightly over June 2003

Retail truck sales showed a 0.3% decline in June over the same period a year ago, according to figures released Wednesday. Year-to-date sales were up 6.4%, boosted by strong growth in Class 6 and Class 8.

For the month, sales were down 3.3% in Class 1 (527,775 from 545,992) and Class 3 (7,664 from 7,797). All other classes showed gains, with the biggest coming in Class 6 (39.4%) and Class 8 (35.6%).

Year-to-date, all classes are up, with Class 1 showing the smallest gain (4.7%) and Class 6 showing the biggest (51.6%).
