Tenneco gets International medium-duty aftertreatment business

Jan 26, 2006 9:26 AM, From Fleet Owner

Lake Forest, IL-based Tenneco announced today that it has been awarded a contract to supply International Truck and Engine Corp. with exhaust aftertreatment systems for its entire line of medium-duty diesel vehicles with International engines, launching in 2007.

The contract is Tenneco’s first in North America for diesel emission control technologies for the medium-duty commercial vehicle segment.

Tenneco will provide International’s vehicles with complete exhaust aftertreatment systems, including a diesel particulate filter (DPF) and a diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC). The new exhaust system will also feature air gap pipe, designed to work together with other components to provide superior thermal efficiency and help improve fuel economy, said Tenneco, as well as a new hanging system.

Tenneco said its latest-generation DPF system was designed using Tenneco’s proprietary computational fluid dynamics and particulate ash modeling CAE (Computer Aided Engineering) technologies. The DPF boasts an advanced modular design that allows for easy cleaning and servicing every 150,000 miles. Its design will also allow International’s service technicians to remove the DPF from the vehicle in less than 10 minutes, said Tenneco, thanks to a simple one-bolt removal system.

Development and engineering for International Truck and Engine Corp. is being done at Tenneco’s engineering center in Grass Lake, MI, and production will take place at its exhaust manufacturing facility in Seward, NE.

“We are pleased to win such a significant contract with International Truck and Engine Corporation,” said Mark Frissora, Tenneco’s chairman, CEO & president. “As a leading global supplier of diesel aftertreatment technologies, we’ve taken our best-in-class exhaust technology for light diesel vehicles and applied that same expertise to develop effective solutions for International.”
