European Commission develops strategy on air pollution

May 3, 2005 9:32 AM

The European Commission says it has a “thematic” strategy on air pollution, meaning it covers a wide range of pollution problems, according to CV Transport News. Eurocrats say policies may include gas trading and emission standards for light and heavy-duty vehicles, transport tolls, and a review of the Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control Directive.

Something even more mysterious called “Stage 2” vehicle re-fuelling is also on the cards.

The Commission also says it is developing a completely new approach to controlling particulate emissions. This will demand that member states make defined cuts in average urban particulate pollution between 2010 to 2020.

The full strategy is due by the end of June this year.
