Oshkosh Introduces Heavy-Duty Chassis

Nov 1, 2000 12:00 PM, TRAILER/BODY BUILDERS STAFF

Oshkosh Truck Corp has introduced a heavy-duty all-wheel-drive truck chassis to serve the ready-mix concrete industry and other severe-service vocational markets.

The Highland was designed specifically for vocational applications including dump, block, logging, electrical utility, and water utility, where the ability to bring equipment to difficult or remote locations is critical.

This chassis features the same Oshkosh all-wheel-drive technology and two-speed transfer case that was used in Bosnia and Operation Desert Storm. Engineers incorporated the all-wheel-drive components into the chassis rather than adding them on. The Highland also features engine cooling technology that can handle higher-horsepower engines.

A Cummins ISM diesel engine, rated 305 horsepower at 2100 rpm with peak torque of 1,150 ft-lb, is standard. Other engines with horsepower ratings from 335 to 370 hp are available. The truck can be equipped with manual or automatic transmission.
