Device Shows Rear Bumper-to-Object Distance

Nov 1, 2000 12:00 PM, TRAILER/BODY BUILDERS STAFF

A new device has been introduced that enhances drivers' ability to determine location of rear vehicle bumpers relative to other objects. The DMS 2000 (Distance Measuring System) provides a West Coast-style mirror with an LED readout of the distance from a bumper sensor to the nearest object. Distance is measured in tenths-of-a-foot by sonar sensors mounted to the rear of the vehicle. The readout updates once a second.
