DaimlerChrysler Idles Seven Plants

Nov 1, 2000 12:00 PM, TRAILER/BODY BUILDERS STAFF

DaimlerChrysler will idle seven United States and Canadian plants as an effort to cut back its vehicle inventories, the company said. Production of light trucks, including Dodge Ram and Dakota pickups, will be affected, and the cutbacks will impact auto haulers, according to analysts.

About 20,000 workers at DaimlerChrysler's Warren MI; Fenton MO; Toledo OH; Newark NJ; Belvidere IL; and Bramalea and Windsor, Ontario, Canada, plants will be idled. However, the company said employees will receive 95% of their regular pay.
