China Trade & Logistics conference nears

Mar 1, 2005 12:00 PM

The first annual Journal of Commerce China Trade & Logistics conference will take place April 18-19, 2005, in Savannah GA. It will offer professionals involved in the United States-China trade a two-day briefing of the state of this market, with sessions addressing a broad range of issues arising in the context of the US-China trade. Sessions will range from current trade and economic issues to logistics strategies and analysis of key operational issues including freight rates, vessel capacity, port infrastructure, and intermodal rail.

Confirmed keynote and session speakers include former US Trade Representative Charlene Barshefsky; Wal-Mart import logistics executive Chris Easter; Fedex Trade Networks Chief Executive Officer G Edmond Clark; leading China economist Nicholas Lardy; and National Committee on US-China relations president John Holden.

The event is organized by The Journal of Commerce Conferences, a unit of Commonwealth Business Media that also produces the Trans-Pacific Maritime, Breakbulk, and Trans-Atlantic Maritime conferences each year.

The CTL conference will include presentations by Paul Svindland, senior director of the logistics sourcing solution group at ICG; Mark Kadar of Mercer Management Consulting; and Brendan McCahill of JoC sister company PIERS.

A session will address the issue of capacity of Chinese ports to handle the nation's surging export volumes. A separate session will address rail intermodal issues, both in China and the United States, focusing on challenges on both sides of the Pacific.
