ArvinMeritor employs new reman processes

Jun 1, 2004 12:00 PM

ArvinMeritor Inc's Commercial Vehicle Aftermarket (CVA) group has established new remanufacturing processes at its United States remanufacturing facility in Plainfield IN.

The QS-9000-certified facility supplies parts under both Meritor and Euclid brand names. Meritor reman product offerings include axle carriers, brake shoes, transmissions, and Lucas brake cylinders. Euclid reman products include brake shoes, hydraulic brake cylinders, and calipers.

With the introduction of lean manufacturing techniques, plantwide productivity has increased 20% at the facility, and fill rates are at record levels. The Plainfield facility processes 35% more remanufactured Class 8 brake shoes annually than previously possible.

Recent process improvements in the 275,000-square-foot facility have resulted in a savings of 25,000 square feet of space. This space now can be devoted to other functions, including additional capacity or new product lines. More improvements planned for 2004 will make another 16,000 square feet available for new business opportunities.
