Oct 1, 2004 12:00 PM

Technicians, shop owners, and service managers all overwhelmingly prefer to purchase their tools from mobile tool distributors according to Tool Purchasing Trends, a new market research report published by the Automotive Aftermarket Industry Association (AAIA).

Tool Purchasing Trends offers insight into current and future purchasing decisions of users of tools and equipment for automotive repair based on surveys of more than 1,340 respondents. The report covers trends by employment role, type of business, region, and age. Types of repair shops surveyed include independents, fleets, dealerships, specialty, service station, national chains, and collision repair.

Nearly all technicians, managers, and owners at repair shops throughout the United States prefer or demand brand-name tools, while 80% prefer or demand tools made in the United States, the report says. The report also provides data on past and future tool purchasing patterns, levels of spending, reasons for choosing a tool supplier, and access to tools at repair shops.

Tool Purchasing Trends is available in CD-ROM or print format; the price is $95 for AAIA members and $195 for non-members. To purchase the report, phone 301-654-6664 or visit www.aftermarket.org.
