ESAB catalog covers its submerged arc line

Fabrication logo ESAB Welding & Cutting Products has released a new catalog highlighting the company's line of submerged arc equipment, wire, and fluxes. ESAB introduced the submerged arc welding process in the 1930s and has continued to provide expertise in subarc technology, from single wire to multiple wire systems and Synergic Cold Wire technology.

The firm offers a full range of fluxes, including fused, bonded, active, or neutral fluxes, and a range of wires and bands for welding and cladding in carbon steel and stainless steel. The new catalog provides information on how to choose the correct wire and flux for any application.

Subarc welding joins metal using heat generated by an arc formed when an electric current passes between a welding wire and the workpiece. The tip of the welding wire, the arc, and the weld joint are covered by a layer of granular flux. Heat generated by the arc melts the wire, base metal, and flux. The flux shields the molten pool from atmospheric contamination, cleans impurities from the weld metal, and shapes the weld bead. It can also add alloying elements to the weld metal to alter the chemical and mechanical properties of the weld. Among advantages of subarc welding are high productivity, travel speeds up to 150 inches per minute with single wire or 220 inches per minute with multiple wires, deep penetration (up to 1-1/2 inches thick in a single pass), no visible arc or spatter, high weld quality and repeatable results, exceptional control of the process, and environmental friendliness.
