Volvo to Recall 125,000 Trucks

Volvo will voluntarily recall 125,000 Class 8 trucks in North America because of a fault with an electrical component.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Web site, Volvo's recall notice, dated Dec. 7, says: "On certain heavy duty trucks, the circuit protection (i.e. automatic circuit breakers) used to protect the vehicle lighting system may not provide adequate protection. If a short circuit occurs and is left untreated, components and wiring may be subject to overheating, which could possibly result in a vehicle fire."
The models affected are the VHD, VNL and VNM, all from years 2003-2008, and the VT from years 2005, 2007 and 2008. The notice says that about 105,000 of the trucks were sold in the United States.
The notice says that affected truck owners will be contacted on or before Feb. 25 and asked to bring their trucks to a Volvo dealership to have the circuit breakers replaced with fuses-work that reportedly will take only 12 minutes.
The notice says that truck owners with questions should call Volvo at 800-528-6586.
