Volvo Truck deliveries Surge 62% in August

Total deliveries from the Volvo Group’s truck operations in August amounted to11,482 vehicles, an increase of 62% compared with the year-earlierperiod.Globally, deliveries in August were 100% higher than in the corresponding month lastyear. In Europe, demand continues to recover gradually. Deliveries were up 90% comparedto the very low level in August 2009.
Demand in the South American and Asian markets remains strong and deliveries inAugust amounted to 1,500 and 593 trucks, an increase with 78% and 94% respectively,compared to August 2009.
In North America, deliveries in August totalled 1,210 vehicles, up 151% comparedwith the year-earlier period. The result reflects an increased demand in the highwaytruck segment of the Class 8 market, and the very positive reaction of customers toVolvo’s SCR-equipped EPA2010 trucks.
In response to increasing demand, production is being gradually ramped up in both theEuropean and North American plants.Mack’s deliveries in August totaled 986 vehicles, up 31% compared with the year-earlierperiod. While the market for construction trucks remains depressed, customer activities hasincreased in the highway and refuse segments. In response to an improvement in thesetwo segments for the new EPA10 trucks, a gradual ramp up of production at theMacungie plant in North America is being implemented during October.
