UK Van, Truck Registrations Still Down

Jun 9, 2009 11:50 AM

UK Van and truck registrations were down 49.2% in the month of May and down 31.4% to 271,761 for the rolling year, according to official data just out from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders.

Within those totals, trucks were down 44% in May and down 16.8% to 47,716 for the rolling year, while vans dropped 50.2% for the month and 33.9% to 224,045 for the rolling year.

"There are some early signs of improving consumer confidence, but UK van and truck companies continue to face difficult economic conditions," said Paul Everitt, SMMT chief executive. "Businesses across the economy remain cautious about their future prospects and it will take a little while for improving confidence to register in the marketplace."
