UD Trucks Ends Its U.S. Run

Sep 20, 2012 5:22 PM, By Rick Weber

UD Trucks, a Volvo brand, has decided to end production for the U.S. market.

“Due to a combination of factors, including the continued shrinking of the cab-over-engine market segment and the cost of regulatory compliance, we’ve decided that this business is not sustainable in the U.S.,” said John Mies of the Volvo Group North America’s corporate communications department.

He said production for the U.S. market will end on December 15, and dealers will be able to order new trucks until October 15. Parts and service support will continue to be provided to customers.

Volvo delivered about 800 UD trucks to the U.S. market last year, for a market share of less than 1%, according to Mies.
