Western Star trucks serve Nevada agency

Sep 1, 2006 12:00 PM

The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) recently purchased 36 Western Star trucks. NDOT will distribute the trucks among its snowplow, sander, and dump truck fleets.

After NDOT submitted specifications required for bid, Sierra Western Star of Sparks NV developed a premium spec package to maximize performance and driver comfort. The resulting purchase included 4900 FA trucks with 123-inch BBCs and Caterpillar C13 engines.

Western Star trucks have wide service cabs with large door openings, room between the seats for the body equipment control console, and several easy-maintenance options. Since the NDOT trucks will be repurposed among its snowplow, sander, and dump truck fleets depending on the season, it was important that the vehicles include all of the appropriate specs for these applications.
