Nissan displays commercial concept van

May 1, 2009 12:00 PM

Nissan sells commercial trucks in 73% of the world's countries. The company does not sell them in North America, but that will change next year.

Nissan announced that it will introduce three all-new products in three years, as well as products currently being sold elsewhere. Bottom line: Nissan will offer a multi-segment commercial vehicle lineup up to Class 5.

The three new products are being developed by Nissan specifically for the North American market and will be built at Nissan's manufacturing facility in Canton, Miss. Nissan is investing $118 million to expand Canton's production to manufacture commercial vehicles.

Nissan presented a preview of its thinking when it displayed its NV2500 concept vehicle.

The concept vehicle that Nissan showed at the Work Truck Show consists of three zones — a driver and passenger zone, a work/design station, and a conference center or cargo bay. Among the equipment in the business end of the van are front seat that swivels to a position in front of workshop table (inside position), a ceiling-mounted overhead laser blueprint printer, 110/220V power outlets; integrated in-door tool storage with custom-fit holders for drills, saws, and other power tools; built-in shop vacuum with air hoses; multi-position cargo tie-down channel system, and functional task lighting throughout the interior and cargo area.
