Medium and Heavy Truck Sales Up 38% in October

Medium and heavy truck sales were up 38% in October over the same period a year ago and unchanged from last month, according to figures compiled by Wards Communications.

Dealers sold 46,328 trucks with GVW ratings above 10,000 pounds during the month, up from October 2010(33,643) and unchanged from September 2011 (46,373).

Compared with October 2010, Class 8 trucks were up 100% (17,424, compared to 8,714). Class 7 sales were 3,545, down 8% from the 3,842 sold.

For the year, truck dealers have sold 402,661 trucks with GVW ratings above 10,000 pounds, up 32% from 304,308 in 2010. Class 8 sales have been 133,399, a 55% increase from the same period last year (85,796). Class 7 sales have been up 9% (34,395, compared to 31,437). Total sales of all classes have been up 13%, from 4,991,135 to 5,657095.

Every class has been up, except for Class 4 (down 15%). After Class 8, the biggest increase has been in Class 5(43%).
