Medium and Heavy Truck Sales Up 33% in April

Medium and heavy truck sales were up 33% in April over the same period a year ago and down 10% from last month, according to figures compiled by Wards Communications.

Dealers sold 38,116 trucks with GVW ratings above 10,000 pounds during the month, up from April 2010 (26,618) and down from March 2011 (42,188).

Compared with March 2011, Class 8 trucks were up 41% (12,173, compared to 8,627). Class 7 sales were 3,294, up 28% from the 2,568 sold.

For the year, truck dealers have sold 142,078 trucks with GVW ratings above 10,000 pounds, up 30% from 109,150 in 2009. Class 8 sales have been 44,134, a 46% increase from the same period last year (32,466). Class 7 sales have been up 10% (13,544, compared to 12,276). Total sales of all classes have been up 21%, from 1,810,781 to 2,185,032.

Every class has been up, except for Class 4 (down 55%). The biggest increase has been in Class 5 (69%).
